(like the Bienvenue, this is carrying 14% alcohol, which Pernot says is a result of |the concentrating influence of some botrytis at the end of the harvest|): Pale straw-yellow. Very ripe peach, smoke, clove, menthol and noble herbs on the nose, plus an element of roasted nuts. Hugely rich and opulent if a bit youthfully aggressive, with very broad flavors of stone fruits and marzipan. Bigger than the Bienvenue but is it better? I was a bit concerned by an element of sweet nuts on the back end, which suggests that this wine will not make old bones.

  • Based in Puligny-Montrachet, Paul Pernot and his sons Paul and Michel occupy a very important and respected position in Burgundy. They are the largest owners of the premier cru vineyard "les Folatieres" and have made their name with serious, mineral-driven wines that engender the graceful blossoming of top-tier white Burgundy. These wines are focused and precise with plenty of acidity and layered fruit aspects. What is so notable about these wines is how in the beginning they are restrained and tight, but with a bit of subtle coaxing they dance across the palate, showcasing vibrant mineral, citrus and white spice notes. Pernot also produces several reds from appellations including Bourgogne, Beaune, Pommard, Santenay, and Volnay.
