A rich, voluminous wine, the 2010 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard emerges from the glass with juicy dark cherries, sage, tobacco and a host of savory notes. There are elements of wildness from the late, cool growing season that add complexity. A rich, creamy finish rounds things out very nicely. The style is a bit explosive and in your face, but it all works. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020.

This tight, expansive Pinot shows a rich mix of vivid blackberry and wild berry notes, with touches of spicy clove. This has excellent structure and ripe, gripping tannins that keep the flavors fresh and lively.

Vivid ruby. Heady aromas of red and dark berry preserves, potpourri and sandalwood, with a bright mineral topnote and slow-mounting smokiness. Sappy, penetrating black raspberry and candied cherry flavors stain the palate, showing a silky, seamless texture. Spice and floral pastille notes carry through a very long, sweet, gently tannic finish.

Very good juice. Trumpets the 2008 amd 2009 from this vineyard but probably needs a bit more time to mature. Nice red berry fruit aromas and attack followed by modest minerality and some smoke and spice. Tasty.

When Paul Hobbs founded his eponymous winery in 1991, he set out to produce small lot, hand-crafted, vineyard designate wines. He began with just three - one Chardonnay, one Pinot Noir and one Cabernet Sauvignon.

Over the years, the small family of wines has grown to over a dozen as numerous new and historic vineyards have captured Hobbs' attention since that first vintage. The current wines are the result of years of perseverance, patience and experimentation in Hobbs' continuing adventure with wine. It is his great hope that the fruit-driven, complex wines he makes with his dedicated team will continue to appeal to many people around the globe.
