  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 89

Elegant aromas of cherry, apple blossom and hazelnut. Sweet and creamy on the palate, tinged with herbs, nuts and vanilla. Finely balanced wine with a nice underlying sense of slate.

  • Four centuries of vine-tending and winemaking run through the veins of Wilhelm and Oliver Haag. Their family has been tied to the village of Brauneberg, on the Mosel, since 1605. Key to the family's estate holdings are the Juffer vineyard, and especially the central portion, known as Juffer Sonnenuhr. This site in the middle of the vineyard provides the perfect micro-climate for Haag's exceptional Rieslings. The slate, stony soils sit in a bowl-like depression in the dauntingly steep hillside, which encourages heat retention and fosters riper fruit. In 2004 Wilhelm Haag passed the winemaking reins at this high quality, low production estate on to his son Oliver, who is now regarded as one of the best winemakers in Germany.
