Aromatic, fresh and silky, this red offers violet, black currant, cherry, spice and mineral flavors. Vibrant, balanced and expressive, this just needs time to harmonize all the components. Shows terrific length and energy.

Dark, rich and powerful, the 2010 Flaccianello wraps around the palate with serious depth and density. The aromas and flavors are totally alive in the glass. Smoke, tobacco and savory herb notes add complexity over time. Initially quite muscular, the 2010 finds quite a bit of finesse with time in the glass. The 2010 Flaccianello is exceptional, but the competition is tough this year at Fontodi! Still, the sensation of tannin is virtually nonexistent in a Flaccianello that is all about elegance and pure refinement.

I remember the thrill this wine gave me when I tasted it upon release. The 2010 Flaccianello della Pieve is a spectacular effort that has only just started its evolutionary journey. This wine has a long, long way to go and I hope to be able to check on its progress with some degree of frequency. In fact, I'm moving the drinking window up by a few years to give it more breathing room. The wine opens to a rich and masculine appearance, and there are iron-like notes that seem specific to this vintage. More mineral and granite stone add great definition. At the core of this wine is a dark and savory serving of black cherry and spice that aspire to seamless integration. The tannins are still firmly on-guard, and this wine needs more time to complete its integration and start its elegant cellar evolution.

This shows plums and currants with blackberries. Full body with soft tannins and a fruity finish. Very fruity and delicious. Made from 100% organically grown Sangiovese grape. Better in 2015.

Located in the picturesque Florentine hillsides just outside the pastoral town of Panzano, Fontodi is the spectacular domain of the Manetti family. The vineyards are located in the valley of the Conca d'Oro (Golden Basin) and enjoy a cool climate and marl-rich soil that gives the fruit a signature high-toned, red cherry profile. The wines are studies in the profound elegance and muted power of the ancient Sangiovese grape. The "Flaccianello" is one of the original Super Tuscans (originated in 1981) that uses 100% Sangiovese from an eponymous single vineyard of superior quality. This is an incredible collectible that represents a seamless juxtaposition of traditional Tuscan flavor and New World richness.
