Beautiful nose with cocoa powder, exotic flowers, candied violets and loads of dark berries. Great aromatic complexity. Amazing texture on palate with a superb precision and silky tannins. So beautifully composed showing already great harmony. Difficult to wait! Better in 2018.

Dark crimson. Racy, lifted nose, verging on tea and treacle, but on the palate there seems no excess of acidity. Solid 21st-century thick right-bank Merlot. Solid and complete with real density. Actually on the finish it does seem to be built for the long term. Just a little astringent on the very end, but overall pretty satiny.

Features substantial but very velvety structure running from start to finish, delivering a muscular feel for now. The hard edges are fully absorbed by the core of plum sauce, steeped blackberry and warm boysenberry reduction notes. The finish offers gorgeous tobacco and ganache accents lurking in the wings, along with flickers of anise and incense that should guide this version to increased elegance with age.

Full red-ruby. Rich aromas of plum, raspberry, mocha and chocolate are energized by minerals and peppery spices. A saline, suave, youthfully restrained midweight, with terrific floral cabernet franc lift contributing to the impression of class and focus. Sweetness is leavened by a savory quality and hints of tobacco and underbrush. Tannins are suave but this firmly structured, subtly long Pomerol really needs eight or ten years to express itself fully. Great potential here.

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The brilliant La Conseillante 2010 has a vibrant bouquet with bright black fruit, pencil box and attractive tertiary notes coming from the Cabernet Franc component. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple entry. This Pomerol is very well balanced, very refined and composed with very well judged acidity and a judicious dash of spice enlivening the finish. Jean-Michel has fashioned a wine that is utterly delightful and will age with style over the long-term. This is a benchmark for La Conseillante. Tasted January 2014.

  • Located in the southwest of France, Bordeaux is the single largest fine-wine-producing region in the world, with more than 15,000 growers spread over 57 appellations and more than 700 million bottles produced annually. The region boasts a two-thousand-year winemaking history and some of the wine world's most recognized and highly sought-after names. Red Bordeaux blends comprise eighty percent of production, but dry and sweet whites are also well-known. The region is divided into the Left and Right Banks (of the Dordogne River); Cabernet Sauvignon prevails in the former and Merlot in the latter.
