A nose of violet, rose hips, blackberry, carbon, root beer, sweet herbs and a dash of red berries. The palate is intense and precisely centered on blackberry compote, incense and tar.

Deep ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of dark fruit preserves, potpourri and incense, picking up sexy Asian spice nuances with air. Juicy, intense blackberry and blueberry flavors are complicated by notes of allspice and candied violet, with a subtle smoky quality emerging on the back. Silky tannins build with air and carry through a long, spicy, penetrating finish. This wine is a baby and really deserves patience, or at least aeration.

The 2010 Syrah Kick Ranch is a gorgeous, shapely wine. An insistent vein of minerality supports the dark fruit in this energetic, complex Syrah. The French oak is a bit noticeable on the finish and the tannins lack the polish of the very best Bedrock wines, but this is nevertheless a terrific wine for the money. The Kick Ranch was made from fully destemmed fruit and co-fermented with 5% Viognier.
