From another cool climate, high elevation site on Atlas Peak, the dark-colored 2009 Zinfandel Mead Ranch exhibits abundant aromas of blueberries, blackberries, crushed rocks and flowers. With considerable intensity, a multidimensional mouthfeel as well as a dense, long finish, this is one of Larry Turley's top 2009 Zinfandels.

Delicious SUPER DUPER nose to begin, garrigue-like brush, zinberry, what I always call |new carpet|, baking spices, white pepper and plenty of sweet fruit to look forward to and a dollop of alcohol peeking through...on the palate this is surely full-bodied, rich, amazingly expressive, nice white pepper, coarse tannins - yet velvety on the palate, really complex flavors of petrol, vanilla, deep and dark berries of the black variety...long and rich on the finish. I prefer this to the Carlisle we had last week

One of the best zins I have had in years. Was trying to track down her Ueberoth bottling, but found the Mead instead. Glad I did. Wonderful spicy complex nose eith just a hint of heat. Dark fruit profile on the palate: blackberries, plum and currants, with exotic spiciness and a round rish mouthfeel. Lengthy cedar spice finish that really hung on the palate. A big wine, but balanced enough. For when you want a big fruit filled wine with plenty of secondary character to keep things interesting.

Making "big reds" has been Larry Turley's passion since giving up his co-ownership of Frog's Leap Winery in 1993. Turley Wine Cellars is run by Larry and his wife Suzanne. Larry's sister, winemaker Helen Turley, made the wines here until 1995. Now the honor goes to Ehren Jordan, who also makes wines for Neyers. With a focus on producing old-vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, Turley sources fruit from vineyards some of which date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Both the Zinfandels and Petite Sirahs have a dark, saturated, inky color, with intense fruit flavors that make unforgettable statements about the power and complexity these varieties may attain.
