2009 Pierre Gaillard Côte-Rôtie Le Mollard
FRANCE / RHÔNE / CÔTE-RÔTIE
- No professional reviews available
In the remote village of Malleval, Gaillard crafts luscious, balanced and harmonious Cote-Roties. They are rich, inky, oily and chock-full of tantalizing aromas and textured flavors of charred meat, garrigue, roasted plums and perfumed fruit and florals. Gaillard has obviously come a long way from his first winegrowing experience, tending a Chardonnay vineyard in his parents' garden. From his childhood experimentation in viticulture, he moved on to jobs at both Guigal and Vidal Fleury, where he honed his winemaking skill. Now, he manages 16 hectares of vines grown on schist soils in the Cote Rotie and Condrieu appellations. From these vines, he produces the Cote-Rotie in addition to several renditions of St Joseph and Condrieu, and multiple single-varietal and blend Vin de Pays (VdP) selections.
