2009 Peter Michael Chardonnay Cuvée Indigene
UNITED STATES / CALIFORNIA / SONOMA
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 95
Greenish gold. Pungent aromas of dried pear, lemon pith, saffron and smoky lees, with slow-building minerality and a touch of peat. Densely packed but energetic, offering lively orchard and citrus fruit flavors and an exotic floral quality. The peaty note resonates strongly on the finish, which hangs on with impressive tenacity. For all its power, this chardonnay conveys a sense of weightlessness.Author: Josh RaynoldsIssue: May/June 2011Wine Advocate | Rating: 97
There are only 450 cases of the 2009 Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene. One of the finest 2009s, it reveals lots of leesy, waxy, honeyed notes intermixed with pineapple, buttered apple and other assorted tropical fruits. This elegant, medium to full-bodied, rich, intense 2009 came in at 15.2% alcohol, which is slightly lower than the 2008 Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene (under 500 cases produced).Author: Robert Parker

Peter Michael's estate vineyards (founded in 1982) are what make his wines truly exceptional. Sugarloaf Ranch sits high above Knights Valley in eastern Sonoma County, and from its rocky volcanic soil come Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The Alexander Mountain Estate Vineyard, above Alexander Valley, provides additional Chardonnay. All Peter Michael wines are site-driven single vineyard bottlings, whether from the estate or the limited sourced appellations. The line-up of estate wines is supplemented by a Pinot Noir from Pisoni Vineyard called "Le Moulin Rouge."
