($130) Light yellow. Musky aromas of casaba melon, lime pith and candied ginger, with slow-building smokiness. Sappy, dense and mineral-driven, at once opulent and tightly focused, with lovely spicy lift contributing energy to its deep honeydew and orchard fruit flavors. The minerality drives a long, spicy, impressively powerful finish.

Also bottled June 2010. Since 1994 this has been a blend of the lieux dits C“te Chatillon (one hectare) and Colombiers (also one hectare); he later added one hectare of Ch de Volon and since 2009, half a hectare of C“te de Ch‚ry. 16,000 bottles in total.More low key on the nose than I remember, perhaps partly because of their fear of making something over the top. Really tastes quite rich, almost sweet, but there is lots of savour underneath and a hint of ginger among the May blossom, but no apricots! Big and bony but more structure and less obvious exuberant perfume than earlier vintages.

Pure and long, with gorgeous fig, anise and creamed pear notes that sail through. Buried minerality and a lilting floral note hang on through the finish.

The 2009 Condrieu La Doriane (15% natural alcohol) exhibits explosive aromas of white peaches, anise, orange marmalade, honeysuckle and crushed rocks. Stunning freshness, minerality and definition characterize this blockbuster Condrieu. It should drink well for a decade.

Golden robe; very fat with a wax-like flavour at first on the palate, then turning to honey and peaches; lovely but little bite left so probably needs to be drunk up

Young but great bracing acidity and good fruit!

Marcel Guigal - the so-called "pivot" of the Cote-Rotie appellation - is both an owner and negociant, and vinifies over 40% of all Cote-Rotie. His father, Etienne, started out quite modestly in 1946, and over the next decades the company has grown to encompass all that is best in the Rhone Valley. Not only known for the massive hits in Hermitage and Cote-Rotie, the Guigal name is synonymous with quality all along the scale, from the humble Cotes-du-Rhone to the Big Three - La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque.
