International Wine Cellar | Rating: 91Bright red. Deeper and darker in character than the Sonoma Coast bottling, displaying black raspberry, cherry pit and sassafras aromas and flavors. Round and palate-coating, with very good depth and surprising back-end energy. Finishes smooth, sappy and impressively long. Give this some time in a decanter if you want to drink it now.Author: Josh RaynoldsIssue: May/June 2011
Wine Spectator | Rating: 91Firm and spicy, with tight mineral, dried berry, anise and blueberry flavors delivered on a beam. Full-bodied, gaining structure on the finish.Drink Dates: 2011-2019Author: James Laube
Wine Advocate | Rating: 88The 2009 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley is a generous, fruity wine laced with sweet red cherries, dried flowers, licorice and tobacco. The aromas and flavors are already a touch forward, suggesting the wine is best enjoyed over the next 2-3 years while the fruit retains its juiciness.Drink Dates: 2012-2014Author: Antonio Galloni
Ken and Akiko Freeman's search for the perfect Sonoma Coast vineyard site lead them to form a winery based on partnerships with top notch Chardonnay and Pinot Noir growers in both the Russian River and Sonoma Coast appellations. Winemaker Ed Kurtzman, who previously developed the formidable Pinot program at Testarossa, lends his expertise in the production of vineyard-designate and appellation wines. From their initial vintage in 2002, the Freemans have increased production from 500 to over 5,000 cases of small lot bottlings.
