In contrast to the expressiveness of the other grands crus, here the nose is restrained to the point of being almost mute though aggressive swirling liberates highly complex notes of spice, peach, lemon, stone and soft wood. The rich, full-bodied, tight and wonderfully concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess a silky and seductive texture as well as superb depth on the hugely long and intense finish. Montrachet is naturally a big wine but this is massive by any measure yet it remains, like the Chevalier, impeccably well-balanced.Author: Allen MeadowsWine Advocate | Rating: 95
Layers of beautifully delineated, expressive fruit emerge from the 2009 Montrachet. The wine blossoms on the mid-palate and finish, with generous, radiant fruit that flows through to the long, sensual finish. This remains a decidedly understated, fresh style of Montrachet. Ideally it needs a few more years to truly come together in bottle, although it is already pretty special. Anticipated maturity: 2014+.Author: Antonio GalloniInternational Wine Cellar | Rating: 95
Pale, bright yellow. Very high-pitched aromas of lavender and iodine. Extremely rich and powerful but with a shockingly light touch and outstanding precision to its flavors of citrus fruits, mirabelle, minerals and spices. Just a hint of surmaturite here, but with the lemony acidity and supporting structure for a long evolution in bottle. Finishes with outstanding length and lift.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: September/October 2011
The domaine of Etienne Sauzet is made up of 26 acres, much of it in the heart of the premier crus vineyards of Puligny-Montrachet. Gerard Boudot, owner and winemaker of Domaine Sauzet, is seeking 'maximum finesse and an individual expression of the climat.' M. Boudot, who married the granddaughter of the late Etienne Sauzet, runs the domaine and has modernized and improved the vinification, making the wines of this domaine among the most sought-after white wines of Burgundy.
The estate has been bottling 100% of its production since the early 1950s. Boudot ferments and ages 100% of the premiers crus and grand crus in small oak, one-third new. The average age of the vines is 30-35 years. These are textbook white burgundies, brimming with flavor, yet elegant and well-balanced.
