Good medium red. Very ripe, soil-driven aromas of black raspberry and smoky minerality. Tactile, vibrant and deep; at once chewy and utterly silky. This compellingly dense grand cru really clings to the palate on the very long, ripely tannic finish. A fabulous combination of energy and flesh: this one hit my G-Spot. One for the cellar. Like the Charmes-Chambertin, this wine is bottled under the Domaine Christophe Roumier label.

Rather light nose, racy and delicate. Really quite light and difficult to read at the moment. Linear. Very far from a blockbuster!

The 2009 Ruchottes-Chambertin is super-intense and powerful. Hints of graphite, flowers and dark fruit emerge over time, but this is a reluctant wine that has already begun to close down. The style is one that emphasizes depth and structure over finesse.

  • Burghound | Rating: 93

The intensely floral nose is exceptionally fresh and displays additional notes of truffle, earth and high-toned red currant aromas that are followed by rich, intense and stony medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent complexity and even better persistence. This should also be quite good as the balance is impeccable.

  • Georges Roumier married his way into some of the best vineyard holdings in the Cote d'Or, back in 1924. He gained a wife from Chambolle and the vineyards as part of the dowry. Grand Cru blocks in Bonnes-Mares, Clos de Vougeot, Musigny, and Corton Charlemagne produce highly sought-after wines year after year. Christophe Roumier, Georges' son, has run the domaine since 1982, when he took over management of his family's 14.2 hectares of vines. He is regarded as one of the finest winemakers in the Cote de Nuit, one who strives to create authentic representations of each of his diverse plots.
