  • Wine Advocate | Rating: 92

From a vineyard planted in the 1890s, the 2008 Zinfandel Salvador Vineyard possesses terrific mulberry and black currant fruit intertwined with a note of roasted herbs, striking minerality and earthiness, a big, sweet, full-bodied mouthfeel, and a heady, succulent finish. This is another beauty to enjoy over the next 7-8 years.

  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 91

($38) Good bright, deep red. Initially expressive aromas of black raspberry, crushed pepper and chocolate quickly went into a shell in the glass. Then dense and juicy in the mouth, with bright acidity framing the flavors of dark raspberry, spices and dried flowers. A big, broad wine with nothing heavy or cooked about it. Finishes long and peppery, with sweet tannins and lingering spiciness. Classic zinfandel with several years of positive evolution ahead of it.

  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 89

Zesty, rustic and full of personality, offering bold raspberry and yeasty cherry aromas and lusty but focused plum, jalapeAño and forest floor flavors.

  • Making "big reds" has been Larry Turley's passion since giving up his co-ownership of Frog's Leap Winery in 1993. Turley Wine Cellars is run by Larry and his wife Suzanne. Larry's sister, winemaker Helen Turley, made the wines here until 1995. Now the honor goes to Ehren Jordan, who also makes wines for Neyers. With a focus on producing old-vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, Turley sources fruit from vineyards some of which date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Both the Zinfandels and Petite Sirahs have a dark, saturated, inky color, with intense fruit flavors that make unforgettable statements about the power and complexity these varieties may attain.
