($42) Medium ruby. Sexy, expressive aromas of dark berries, licorice, sassafras and smoky minerals. Juicy and tightly wound, even youthfully tangy, with a pliant structure and a restrained sweetness to the flavors of black raspberry, cherry preserves, minerals, rose and licorice pastille. Becomes spicier toward the back, finishing with silky tannins and impressive purity. This wine's lively fruit makes it enjoyable now.

Here the nose is really admirably pure and ripe with spice and a perfumed character to the mostly red and blue fruit aromas. The rich, intense, balanced and detailed middle weight flavors possess good dry extract that buffers the underlying structure and confers a sappy mouth feel to the ever-so-mildly austere finish. I quite like this as there is both elegance and sophistication and about the only nit is a discreet touch of warmth.

The 2008 Pinot Noir La Neblina exhibits copious aromas of cranberries, black cherries, loamy soil, underbrush and pomegranate. This medium-bodied, lively, crisp Cotes de Beaune-styled Pinot Noir should drink well for 3-4 years.

Nice ruby color. Good berry notes on the nose. Nice balance between a dusty sour cherry cola and light peppery smoke. Finish had nice soft tannins but was a little on the short side.

Radio Coteau works exclusively with small, cool-climate vineyard sites in western Sonoma County. Winegrower Eric Sussman's first vintage at the helm was 2001, after spending the years prior gaining experience with organic winegrowing in Washington and French winemaking in Bordeaux and Burgundy. Learning from the masters at the Chateaux Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1995 and Domaines Comte Armand and Jacques Prieur in 1996, Eric returned stateside with a strong commitment to producing wines with a true "sense of place." The winery crafts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Zinfandel, primarily from designated sites.
