2008 Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino
ITALY / TUSCANY /
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 94
(14% alcohol): Bright red with an amber rim. Initially reduced nose clears with aeration to reveal knockout aromas of candied redcurrant, red cherry syrup, red plum and flint. Shows laser-like precision on the palate, with high but harmonious acidity lifting and extending the ripe red fruit, tobacco and sweet spice flavors. Silky tannins and beautiful balance make this a memorable 2008 Brunello. Finishes very long and pure. The superripe, almost decadent red fruit flavors speak of the hot Castelnuovo dell' Abate zone but this wine remains remarkably focused thanks to its excellent acidity. Always decant this wine an hour ahead.Author: Ian D'AgataIssue: July/August 2013Wine Advocate | Rating: 90
A juicy, immediate wine, the 2008 Brunello di Montalcino impresses for its inner perfume and overall harmony. Cloves, menthol, licorice and tar are some of the notes that meld together as the wine opens up. In this vintage, the volatile acidity that is sometimes present is more pronounced than usual because the wine lacks its customary depth. Hints of hard candy, flowers and mint linger on the racy finish. Overall, this is a solid effort from Poggio di Sotto. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028.Author: Antonio Galloni
