Black cherry, raspberry, smoke and maduro tobacco flavors mingle in this traditionally styled red, but there's also a woodsy under- brush note. Though elegant, this is well-structured and needs air to show its balance.

Good deep red. Clean, perfumed nose combines bitter cherry, black raspberry, tart red berries and flowers: very nebbiolo. Sweet, dense, concentrated and broad; bigger, deeper and finer-grained than the classico but a bit youthfully clenched today and in need of patience. The ripely tannic finish is lifted by late notes of cinnamon and minerals. Shows the energy of the vintage.

The 2008 Barolo Parafada is the richest of these 2008s. It possesses gorgeous depth and fabulous overall balance. Layers of fruit flow effortlessly to the round, caressing finish. Tar, smoke and licorice add further shades of nuance and complexity.
