($430; malo done, but this wasn't scheduled to be fined until the end of June) Medium yellow. Ripe, clean, highly aromatic nose combines gingery spices, flowers and a honeyed nuance. Fat, silky, sweet and full, boasting strong yellow fruit flavors and impressive volume. This big boy really stains the palate with flavor, but I wanted a bit more lift and nuance. Remy notes that the pH here is a very healthy 3.15.

Broad-shouldered and somewhat monolithic, this white plays its peach, citrus and apple flavors off spice and toast notes. The vibrant structure keeps this well-defined, as the citrus and spice themes echo on the finish. There's a brilliance to this wine, but it needs time. Best from 2014 through 2028. 65 cases imported.

Just finish malo end Oct, two weeks previously. Deepish gold. Floral nose, less obviously rich than the rather oaky Bienvenues tasted. But with great purity. Very obviously Leflaive style. Still a little fizzy and with lots of density and great structure. Real body. Big and powerful. Very long.

  • "If the blessed slopes of the Cote d'Or are home to the ultimate expression of Chardonnay, then Anne-Claude Leflaive could be regarded as the magician, some might use the word "shaman", who can conjure wine like no other from this propitious terroir." - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
