2008 Carter Cabernet Sauvignon Coliseum Block
UNITED STATES / CALIFORNIA / NAPA
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 91
(14.9% alcohol; blended with 20% merlot): Bright medium ruby. Pungent minerality lifts aromas of cassis, licorice, flowers and bitter chocolate. Sweet, lush and penetrating; briary, inky and youthfully aggressive in a distinctly mountain way. This full-bodied cabernet has the depth of fruit to stand up to its structure, but lay it down for at least a few years.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 2011Wine Spectator | Rating: 94
Delightfully complex flavors of roasted herb, toasty oak, dried herb, currant, roasted coffee, lead pencil and savory berry are full-bodied, intense and focused, ending with a long, persistent finish.Author: James Laube
Since 1998 Carter Cellars has been producing small, intimate vintages with outstanding fruit from Napa's finest vineyard sources. Mark Carter's dream of creating a world class wine label without a brick and mortar winery lead him to a partnership with Nils Venge and no small amount of critical praise. Carter Cellars produces several Cabernets and Merlots, all from fruit grown in low-yield vineyards in Napa and showcasing Beckstoffer fruit from the famous original To-Kalon Vineyard. In 2006 they founded Envy Winery to produce estate-grown wines for the first time.
