Good medium red. Red fruits, smoked meat (Serrano ham?) and sexy oak on the nose, lifted by a floral topnote. Big, lush, fine-grained and sweet; opulent and harmonious wine with the fat to enrobe its substantial chewy tannins. Finishes taut but this is much less austere than I would have expected from this vineyard in this vintage. Clavelier actually compared it in style to his 2007.
Almost invisible oak allows the spicy, ripe and mildly sauvage red berry fruit aromas to shine and this transparency extends to the dense, serious, powerful, tautly muscled and beautifully textured flavors that are focused, terrifically persistent and a bit less austere than it typically is at this early stage. Quite promising. BH 92-94 Drink 2018+
