($250; just one new barrel produced, from a 1952 planting) Pale yellow. Crushed stone lifted by a lavender topnote on the nose, and joined by a lemony flavor on the palate. At once juicy and creamy, and much easier to taste today than the Perrieres, as this is rounder and broader. Offers impressive gras and density for a 2007 but not quite the pristine, elegant quality of the even stonier and uncompromising Perrieres. The crop level here was just 20 hectoliters per hectare, according to Dancer, and I found very little sign of the new oak.

Here there is a bit more wood influence but notably less than in prior vintages, which is all to the good as this wine was sometimes over oaked. In 2007, the elegant, pure and ripe aromas are allowed center stage as they introduce detailed, stony and balanced medium-bodied flavors that are powerfully focused and detailed on the driving and equally explosive finish. This is an understated, classy and complete stunner of a wine.
