Rich, dry and full-bodied, with loamy earth, dried berry, mineral, anise and black licorice flavors that run deep and persistent, layered and concentrated, ending with a long, tight finish. Mourvedre, Grenache, Syrah and Counoise.

The prodigious 2007 Esprit de Beaucastel is a blend of 44% Mourvedre, 29% Grenache, 21% Syrah, and the rest Counoise. A very great wine, very much in the mold of its French cousin, Chateau Beaucastel, the wine has a saturated ruby/purple color and a gorgeous nose of melted licorice, charcoal, blueberry, and blackberries intermixed with freshly sliced mushrooms, tree bark, and pepper. Spicy, dense, full-bodied, and extraordinarily complex, yet at the same time well-delineated and fresh, it should drink well for 10-15+ years.

A remarkable wine, the best at the Paso Robles tasting; noble bouqet, notes of manure, very long aftertastate vibrating in your mouth. Not sure for how it will survive (10+?) but the only wine of the tasting I bought as much as I could find online to explore years down the road.

Dark garnet red in color with a dark nose of chocolate, plums and crushed rock. Elegant palate is rich and layered with flavors of purple fruit. cedary spice, supple tannins and a long lingering finish 44%Mourvedre, 29% Grenache, 21% Syrah, 6% Counoise An absolute favorite! I bought three more bottles after tasting this and it is definitely now one of my favorite Rhone Blend/Clones

Quite a surprise. I was not expecting such a pleasing array of fruit, tannin, and complexity. Ripe red fruits with some black current and cedar. The mid palate was what hit me the most as it morphed over two days. Some smokey character and maybe pepper. Lovely smooth finish that keep hanging on. I will get more of this.

California is the heartland of wine production in the US, and the state that brought prestige to American wine thanks to the pioneers who built early wineries like Staglin, Beringer, Ridge, Mayacamas and Chateau Montelena in the 1800s. Its large geographic area ensures a great diversity in growing sites, varieties grown, and quality levels. Generalizations about the state's wines have numerous exceptions; however, a few key facts generally hold true—ample sunshine, dry weather during the growing season, and moderate winters prevail. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon continue to dominate the state's production—albeit in continually smaller percentages, as growers continue to diversify. More than 100 different varieties can be found throughout the state.
