  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 94

Deliciously rich and layered, full-bodied and well-structured, with a complex core of blackberry, huckleberry, anise and mineral flavors that take on a tar and graphite edge on the finish, where the tannins give this traction. Syrah and Grenache.

  • Wine Advocate | Rating: 99

The inky/purple-hued 2007 Booker Vineyard (95% Syrah and 5% Grenache) boasts a floral-dominated bouquet with camphor, blackberry, roasted meat, and espresso scents in the background. The density, flavor intensity, richness, full-bodied power, elegance, and freshness are all hallmarks of this special vintage in the Central Coast.

Big time nose, big time juice, big time wine! Hard to believe this wine is 11 years old; it felt like the wine was put in the bottle yesterday. Full of fruit, bold and meaty. Almost too big to drink on its own. With a good steak, it was blow-away good. Maybe not in the upper echelons of wines, but another outstanding production from Justin. I could drink this wine all the time!

Essence of black and blueberry evolving to marijuana spice, tar, smoke and bacon. Impressive!

Nearly perfect. Will undoubtedly evolve with age, but very hard to pass on now.

Sheer genius in this bottle...great spice and savory notes with otherworldly fruit.

Saxum Vineyards is focused on producing Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre-based blends from the Templeton Gap of Paso Robles, California. They let their rocky calcareous soils, steep hillsides, and cooling ocean breezes speak through their wines by keeping yields extremely low, picking fruit at the peak of ripeness, and using a minimalist approach in the cellar. Production is kept at a total of 2200-2800 cases per year divided between 6 different cuvees: Broken Stones, Heart Stone Vineyard, James Berry Vineyard, Booker Vineyards, Rocket Block and Bone Rock.
