(92% To Kalon fruit) Deep, bright ruby. Very ripe, nuanced nose and palate offer cassis, minerals, graphite and licorice, plus a complicating note of tarry oak. Sweet, dense and rich, with classic Oakville cabernet flavors; strongly mineral- and soil-driven. Offers a lovely combination of fat, chewiness and sheer power. Finish with a mouthful of sweet tannins and excellent structure for a graceful evolution in bottle. This has turned out very well and should ultimately surpass the 2006.

A wonderful expression of stylish Cabernet that's ripe, fleshy and complex, highlighting ripe currant, wild berry and blueberry, with touches of cedar and cigar box. The flavors gain traction on the finish.

The full-bodied, powerful, pure 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is another outstanding effort revealing notes of spring flowers, toasty oak, creme de cassis, licorice, and graphite. One would have to go back to the 1990, 1991, 2001, or 2002 to find a Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve this impressive.

A full bodied, robust wine. Red currants, graphite, and a hint of oak. What keeps me from rating this wine higher is the hot finish. I detected it before I noticed that it had 16% alcohol.

Big oak and cedar on the noise. Polished refined and elegant. Surprisingly rounded tannins for the bottle age. My wife did not feel it was as good as the 2005, but I disagree. This is a great bottle of wine.

Classic Mondavi cabernet, although I thought the 2006 was better. A complex wine with strong aromas of ripe currant and a hint of smoke. The tannins are firm, but not quite as firm as expected after 5 years. A wine that flirts with greatness.

We opened the 1997 and the 2007 Robert Mondovi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon for our Christmas dinner 2010. We chose these two wines to experience the difference between two very well made wines from the same winery and vineyards but separated by 10 years of cellaring and aging. My brother in law was visiting from the east coast and he is really just learning about wine. This was his first chance to taste a wine with some age on it and to compare it to the current vintage and see how the wine evolves over time. I bought both wines from the winery during a recent visit so I know the provenance and cellaring conditions were without question. As you would expect the 1997 had beautifully aged retaining its power and elegance but softening a bit and rounding off some of the sharp edges. The fruit, while still present and delicious, was a bit softer and darker. Where the color of the 2007 is a deep purple and dark to the edge of the glass the 1997 had lightened a bit taking on a circle of brick at the edge of the glass. The 2007 is a young and powerful wine with tannins, structure and balance. I believe this wine will need at least 5 years to reach peak drinkability - possibly even more. The 2007 Robert Mondovi Reserve shows its potential to age gracefully into a smooth, mature, elegant expression of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the 1997 Robert Mondovi Reserve demonstrates the realization of that potential.

Wonderful wine. Big mouth feel with nice tannins. Then turns into a long velvet finish.

Robert Mondavi Winery was founded in 1966 and for decades has produced quality California wines that represent New World innovation on a global scale. The winery is located in Oakville, at the center of Napa Valley. The Mondavi family is well known for its dedication to research and experimentation in winemaking, as well as for helping establish the modern-day wine business in the post-Prohibition era. Some of Mondavi's innovations include the introduction of cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks and the use of French oak barrels in the late 1960s. Furthermore, Mondavi's technological innovations to improve the quality of wine and its focus on natural farming techniques have made a fundamental impact on the industry as a whole. For over 20 years Mondavi has been a leader in environmental responsibility, promoting sustainable farming and conservation.

The Robert Mondavi Winery produces wine in four categories: Napa Valley Wines, District Wines, Reserve Wines, and Limited Availability Wines. The Napa Valley wines are made from fruit blended across the region, whereas the District wines reflect the terroir of a particular appellation within the Valley. The Reserve wines are made from selected vineyard fruit that benefits from cellar aging. The Limited Availability Wines are unique varietal expressions (or blends) whose fruit is sourced from venerable vineyards throughout the Napa Valley and Carneros.
