($53) Dark red. Expressive aromas of red berries and cherry, with notes of smoky garrigue and dried flowers adding complexity. Spicy and pure, with an exotic floral note joining the mineral-driven raspberry and cherry flavors. Finishes smooth and sweet, with little in the way of obvious tannins. This is delicious now.

A clean, pure, rounded version, offering cherry pie, red licorice, sweet toast and pretty spice notes that are well-entwined and linger through the medium-weight finish.

Grenache Noir 80%, Syrah 10%, MourvŠdre 5%, Cinsaut 5%A bit over-ripe on the nose, but good energetic driving fruit on the palate. The sample seems a little tired and the tannins a bit insistent, but there is real interest here. Worth looking at in bottle! Maybe slightly too much oak influence?

The 4,400-case blend of 80% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape boasts a dense plum/purple color as well as a wonderfully sweet nose of fresh black truffles, incense, blue and black fruits, roasted herbs, and earth. The wine is full-bodied and pure with fresh acids, silky tannins, and a voluptuous mouthfeel.

Absolutely delicious. Subtle nose builds with air. A prominent olive tapenade note coming forth. Really beautiful fruit and a long finish. Not sure about others commenting about oak. I didn't notice much as the wine was all about fruit. I would wait 5+ years if possible. Tannins a bit tough at the end, but went great with grilled NY steak. Really great stuff that hasn't even yet hit full stride.

Opaque purplish ruby colored almost to the rim. Nose shows sweet raspberry , and black cherry aromas with a hint of mint and briar in the background. Framboise , black cherry and tobacco flavors up front in a medium weight. Mid palate shows black pepper and anisette flavors with tar and black fruit nuance in the finish.

Pierre Usseglio et Fils has been a family-run domaine since Francis Usseglio released his first vintage in 1949. Today, with brothers Jean-Pierre and Thierry Usseglio at the helm, Pierre and Fils has become one of the top producers in Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

The vineyards comprise 17 parcels over 23 hectares on some of the best terroir in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The wine is vinified traditionally using natural yeasts, low doses of sulfur, and is aged mostly in old oak foudres. The results are world class wines that are testament to Chateauneuf-du-Pape as one of the world's most famous terroirs.
