    ($48) Light yellow-gold. Potent aromas of lemon and lime zest, wet stone and white flowers. Juicy, finely etched citrus and green apple flavors stain the palate, picking up an exotic anise quality on the back. With air, this develops passion fruit and mango qualities that carry through the strikingly long, sappy finish. This wine offers Bordeaux-like depth and Loire-like focus and cut, and should age extremely well.

    One of the best Sauvignon Blancs that has been made in California is the l'Apres Midi and the 2007 continues that succession of wonderful Sauvignons. The production is just over 2,000 cases, and while some Semillon is often blended in, the wine is dominated by Sauvignon, with its notes of melony fruit, lemon grass, fig, and spice. The 2007 is very fragrant, with hints of honeyed grapefruit and spice.

Peter Michael's estate vineyards (founded in 1982) are what make his wines truly exceptional. Sugarloaf Ranch sits high above Knights Valley in eastern Sonoma County, and from its rocky volcanic soil come Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The Alexander Mountain Estate Vineyard, above Alexander Valley, provides additional Chardonnay. All Peter Michael wines are site-driven single vineyard bottlings, whether from the estate or the limited sourced appellations. The line-up of estate wines is supplemented by a Pinot Noir from Pisoni Vineyard called "Le Moulin Rouge."
