($75) Vivid ruby. Exotically perfumed bouquet of red and dark berries, lily of the valley, soy sauce and smoky minerals. Palate-staining black raspberry and candied cherry flavors are deepened by a note of black cardamom and pick up a sexy rose pastille quality on the back end. The finish repeats the red berry note and lingers with excellent clarity and spicy persistence. This is complex enough to drink right now.

Intense and full-bodied, this is focused on a core of loamy earth, dried berry, sage and mineral. Complex and concentrated, ending with a dry edge to the tannins.

The dense, elegant, dark ruby/purple-hued 2007 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard Carneros comes from primarily the Calera and Pommard clones. It offers up notes of rose petals, plum sauce, raspberries, kirsch, cola, and earth followed by a rich, full-bodied finish.

Black cherry, cola, strawberry rhubarb, and spice notes. The palate is quite big, the fruit is lush and very deep, with a long juicy finish. This is still a baby, easily has 5 more years.

what a fantastic pinot. Had at the winery and had to get some more. The complexity and depth really show with great touches of mineral, black cherry, and cedar. Delicious.

When Paul Hobbs founded his eponymous winery in 1991, he set out to produce small lot, hand-crafted, vineyard designate wines. He began with just three - one Chardonnay, one Pinot Noir and one Cabernet Sauvignon.

Over the years, the small family of wines has grown to over a dozen as numerous new and historic vineyards have captured Hobbs' attention since that first vintage. The current wines are the result of years of perseverance, patience and experimentation in Hobbs' continuing adventure with wine. It is his great hope that the fruit-driven, complex wines he makes with his dedicated team will continue to appeal to many people around the globe.
