2007 Patton Valley Pinot Noir 10 Acre
UNITED STATES / OREGON /
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 88
($48) Light, bright red. Redcurrant and wild strawberry on the nose, with a subtle floral character adding complexity. Red berry flavors are refreshingly brisk if not especially fleshy. The spicy, energetic fruit on the finish is focused and gently sweet. Serve this with lighter red meat dishes.Author: Josh RaynoldsIssue: May/June 2009
Visits to Chicago wine shops between business school classes helped hone Monte Pitt and Dave Chen's love for fine Pinot Noir. Inspired by their favorite variety, they decided to buy a vineyard and make their own. After searching out a number of sites in California and Oregon, they settled on the Willamette Valley and, in 1995, purchased a 72-acre site in Washington County. Pitt, who gained firsthand experience at Beaux Freres, is helped in winemaking duties by Jerry Murray, a seasoned veteran who has made wine at Erath and Panther Creek in Oregon, Martinborough and Highfield in New Zealand, and Selbach-oster in Germany. Premium Pinot Noir is the sole purpose of Patton Valley.
