Offers both style and structure, with lively aromas of black raspberry, cracked pepper and mocha, with plush and layered flavors of wild berry, fresh sage and licorice. Ripe tannins sneak in on the finish. Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Charbono and Grenache.

15.2% alcohol, 50% Zinfandel, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 9% Petite Sirah,2% Charbono, 1% Grenache Aromas: macerated red raspberry, boysenberry with bits of violet and sage thrown in Palate: the mouth feel is silky and round with no roughness in spite of the alcohol. Coffee, blackberry, a creamy mocha and Santa Rosa plum component lead into a long finish Impression: Always a wine to be on the lookout for. An outstanding wine for the price.

A dark, murky, violet color with medium to slow legs that reeked of sweet grape jelly. The flavor eventually blossomed a bit with some hints of licorice but the hyper-fruitiness of blueberry, blackberry and again grape jelly never seemed to be effectively balanced by the acidity. The finish was long and lingering but simply perpetuated a less than favorable experience.

Absolutely lovely. Decanted 2 hours, consumed over the following 4. Everything simply improved over time from appearance to nose to finish.

Blueberry notes on the nose. Nice, full, complex flavor - a little thin on the back end. VERY smooth, despite the alcohol over %15. Very nice wine, easy drinking - drink now.

great structure from the cab (24%) and lots of dark fruit from the zin (50%). I decanted for about 20 minutes before drinking to help it open up. Still a bit tight but definitely enjoyable now. a great value wine.

Lackluster in every way for me. Flat and uninteresting with fruit notes overpowered by boozy acid

Opaque purplish ruby color all the way to the rim. Jammy nose of blueberry , and raspberry with cinnamon toast , and a hint of anise in the background. Ripe blackberry and black cherry flavors up front in a medium to full weight. Mid palate shows the anise ,and black pepper with heat picking up. Black fruit and spice laden finish.

Orin Swift Cellars is the realization of a dream that began while Dave Phinney was studying abroad at the University of Florence. When he returned to the States, he worked his first harvest for the Robert Mondavi Winery on the nightshift. The next year, he started Orin Swift Cellars with two tons of purchased Zinfandel grapes.

Phinney's 2005 The Prisoner earned the #17 spot on Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines list, making Orin Swift Cellars a well-known name in fine wine.
