2007 Montevetrano Colli di Salerno

Dark and sappy, with tightly wound layers of black currant, blackberry and plum skin. Hints of underbrush, ash and smoke are framed by firm tannins, which need time to resolve. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Aglianico.

Ruby-red. Balsamic red cherry, ripe plum, graphite, milk chocolate and herbs on the nose. Enters dense, juicy and suave, then turns sweeter and softer, with balsamic, extremely ripe red fruit, cassis and coffee shake flavors joined by herbs and flint. Finishes fairly long and clean, with a creamy texture and a delicate lingering herbal quality. Obviously a product of a very warm season, this vintage of Montevetrano is sweeter and more opulent than some past efforts and will appeal those who prefer wines with early accessibility.
