($76) Deep, vivid red. Wild aromas of black raspberry, potpourri and Asian spices. Dense, sappy and youthfully imploded, with smoky spice tones accenting lush red fruit and contributing to the penetrating quality in the middle palate. Very tightly coiled, youthful pinot, with a deep core of tangy minerality. The spicy quality lingers on the long, sharply focused finish. Pretty seductive now but I'd hold this one for at least another three years.

From the Widdoes and Avid vineyards, the 2007 Pinot Noir Ryan is made from the Martini clone as well as several Dijon clones. It reveals foresty/autumnal characteristics intermixed with notes of raspberries, black cherries, cola, and spice box. Full-bodied and rich, along with the Finn, it is the biggest, most concentrated of these Pinots.

This Pinot strikes a wonderful balance between ripe, fleshy, complex wild berry, raspberry, sage and fresh earth, alluring for both its thrust of flavors and subtle mix of loamy earth and berry flavors. Ends with sage and anise touches that are teasing.
