($60) Deep red. Powerful aromas of red berries and cherry skin are complicated by anise and dried rose nuances. Nervy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show impressive depth, with silky tannins giving shape to the wine. A tangy note of blood orange comes up with air and carries through the long, impressively energetic finish. Guthrie told me that the pH is 3.28, which is extremely low for a New World pinot and similar to some of the most energetic versions from New Zealand.Author: Josh RaynoldsIssue: May/June 2009Wine Advocate | Rating: 88
The 2007 Pinot Noir Kaiser En Bas displays crisp red currant and pomegranate notes, some attractive crushed rock and spring flowers, medium body, zesty acids, and a relatively short, compact finish.Author: Robert ParkerBurghound | Rating: 92
This is an elegant offering with cool but ripe red and black cherry aromas introducing delicious and pure medium-bodied flavors that possess a dusty and sappy mouth feel on the attractively dry and lingering finish. This is clearly very much of a baby and will need a few years to really come into its own but the potential is clearly here. Unlike several of the wines in the range, I wouldn't experiment with this right away, or if curiosity overwhelms judgment, then give it at least 30 minutes in an open-mouthed decanter.Drink Dates: 2014+Author: Allen MeadowsIssue: 4th Quarter, 2009

Wells Guthrie is a fervent believer that great wine begins in the vineyard. In pursuit of this, Copain has sought out vineyards with expositions, soil compositions, climates, clones, and rootstock selections capable of producing wines of distinction and singular character.
Copain's winemaking practices aim to express each site's unique qualities. Copain wines are highlighted by lower alcohols, natural vibrant acidity, gentle handling of the fruit and wine, native yeast ferments and minimal use of new oak.
