From Dijon clones, the 2007 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe is very good, with notes of loamy soil, underbrush, red and black cherries, medium body, and crisp acids. All of these Pinot Noirs see about 50% whole clusters, and to his credit, Wells Guthrie keeps the new oak to a minimum (30% or less).

Thirty minutes of air really brings out what initially is a very restrained, even taciturn nose to reveal a really pretty mix of both red and blue pinot fruit, cherry and a floral hint that is also picked up by the delicious, round and detailed medium-bodied flavors that finish with a sappy yet dusty mouth feel and offer excellent length. This is a lovely effort with impressive depth plus it should age.
