($95; 85% grenache and 15% syrah) Glass-staining ruby. Vivid raspberry and mulberry scents are complemented by dried violet and licorice. Showing more vivacity than it did last year, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors and showing no rough edges or obvious tannins. The finish repeats the dark berry and licorice notes and lingers with impressive persistence.

Almost confit, roasted red fruits on the nose. Very sweet palate entry. Just a bit simple on the palate. Lots of alcohol, which is a rather dominant.

Really gorgeous, delivering layer upon layer of fig, boysenberry, blackberry and blueberry fruit, which stay polished and driven, while graphite, black tea and pastis notes fill in the background. Very rich, but supersilky, with great buried acidity.

The incredible 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Quartz is - aside from the otherworldly 2001 - the greatest example of this cuvee I've tasted. Full-bodied, deep, rich and concentrated, it's also seamless and elegant, with killer black raspberry, cassis, lavender, crushed flowers and exotic spices all soaring from the glass. Still showing a youthful, unevolved profile, with serious concentration, it is approachable now due to its wealth of the texture, yet will continue to evolve gracefully.

ENORMOUS nose of red ripe fruit cherries and plum... very fruity, almost jammy, high acidity and minerality. Classic chateauneuf, in a stellar vintage year.

This wine is an explosion of fruit! Velvety and well-balanced with nice mineral notes. A great value.

Very dark red and powerful. I think it was a little young and could definitely use a couple years to mature.

The exceptional quality and stylistic excellence of this property's wines are due to the dedication, versatility, and forward thinking of both the late Jean-Denis Vacheron (who married the owner's daughter, Sylvie Pouzin) and the current winemaker, Bruno Gaspard. Jean-Denis and Sylvie had taken over from her father, Claude, in 1996. However, in 2002, Jean-Denis was killed in a traffic accident and Sylvie took the reins. Today, with the help of Gaspard as well as oenologist Philippe Cambie, she has catapulted the domaine into the elite echelon of the Southern Rhône. Despite holding only nine hectares of land, the domaine boasts venerable neighbors (Château Rayas and Château de Beaucastel), and its vineyards have elements of the best of both these estates. The rocky-sandy soils provide excellent drainage and impart minerality to these Châteauneuf-du-Papes.
