    Another blockbuster, the 2007 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe may be the finest Pinot I have ever tasted from this vineyard. Fresh mushroom scents intermixed with red and black currants, soil undertones, and attractive barnyard-like terroir notes are all present in this full-bodied, super-textured, complex Pinot. It is just as good as the Cargasacchi cuvee, but shows more of the sassafras, loamy soil, and barnyard side of this varietal. Authentically Burgundian in complexity, this beauty appears capable of lasting 10-12+ years or more.

    Bright red. Fresh raspberry and candied cherry on the nose, with good spicy, floral lift. Tangy red berry flavors are focused and pure, with silky tannins adding support. The spice-accented finish leaves behind an exotic rose pastille note. This juicy wine drinks very well now but is evolving slowly.

Brewer-Clifton produces vineyard designated Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Santa Rita Hills appellation in Santa Barbara. Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton started the winery in the early 1990s with the aim to capture the vineyards' essence in the bottle. The Santa Rita Hills' long growing seasons and diversity of marine-based soils give the wines great purity and precision. Steve also has his own label called Palmina that focuses on Italian varieties. Greg Brewer also has his own Diatom label and is the winemaker at Melville Winery.
