($90) Good bright red. Raspberry and minerals on the nose, with complicating hints of earth and leather. Sweet and moderately dense, with some very ripe notes to the flavors of strawberry, raspberry and chocolate. Finishes with building tannins and good length, but seems slightly dull in its fruit character. (My sample of the Clos de l'Arlot was almost certainly not representative, as it showed a dried fruit character and lacked both sweetness and freshness.)

Smooth start, tough end. Not really in balance though it may well smooth its passage on the way. Bit awkward in terms of oak dominance at the moment.

This too is extremely floral with aromas of freshly crushed red berry fruit that give way to supple, round and relatively accessible flavors that are textured, fine, mouth coating and long. There is perhaps a bit less structure here than I'm used to seeing but the tannins are ripe and well-integrated. Delicious if not profound.
