2006 Maison Verget Chablis Fourchaume Vieilles Vignes de Vaulorens 1er Cru
FRANCE / BURGUNDY /
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 91
($59; as with the Minots, the vines here are about 65 years of age) Soil-inflected aromas of flint, smoke, wet match and piquillo pepper. Fat, broad and quite dry, with a glyceral texture leavened by a suggestion of new wood. Finishes long, with a faint youthful bitterness.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: July/August 2007Burghound | Rating: 91
A heavily reduced nose makes it difficult to fairly assess but the medium-bodied flavors are generous and powerful, offering good weight and punch with ample energy on the dry and stony finish that really coats the mouth. Good potential here with fine balance.Author: Allen MeadowsIssue: 4th Quarter, 2007
When he created Verget in 1990, Jean-Marie Guffens applied the very same rules as for his own production. Verget's philosophy can be summed up in one simple sentence: "the best wine comes from the best grapes." This elementary saying is the corner stone of Verget. Thus, whether in Maconnais, Chablis or Cote d'Or, the best vineyards and best terroirs are selected to produce quality wines.
