($29) Medium red-ruby. Aromas of black cherry, currant, menthol, licorice, minerals and tobacco, plus a whiff of superripeness. Plump, broad and smooth, with an early sweetness making this accessible from the outset. Combines good weight and freshness.

Slightly superior to the 2005, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa possesses a dark ruby/purple color as well as a creme de cassis, spice box, and floral-scented bouquet, and a medium to full-bodied finish. A strong effort, it should drink nicely for 12-15 years.

Supple, elegant and well-balanced, mixing ripe currant, herb, anise and mineral notes. Ends with fine-grained tannins and a touch of green tea.

    |Supple, elegant, and well-balanced| says a well known wine publication. All of that is a given, it is the Mondavi style. Wine was well structured, well balanced, but had a hard time picking up any definitive fruit aromas. Tends a slight bit more toward the earthy side. The foundation (i.e. the Mondavi style) is there for a great cab, but this one doesn't quite get there.

Big Bold Cab for the 20 dollar range. Tannins need to soften but went well with the ribeyes.

Big with massive level of tannin. Decent bouquet but still quite closed. Medium finish. Need some aging for tannin to soften and allow its sweet fruits to appear. Could potentially be a bargain in few years.

Decanted for 2 hours+. Never really opened. Seems much more closed than 2005 at the same age. Nose is restrained and palate exhibits dark plum and black cherry with hint of cedar. Full bodied and tannic. Out of balance for now. Definately will be better as it ages.

Drank the 06 Napa Cab and 04 Napa Merlot with Tisa and Gunther. The 06 Cab is drinking very well, good fruit from start to finish, the merlot had less flavor but was very soft. Color and weight of each wine was very good.

Robert Mondavi Winery was founded in 1966 and for decades has produced quality California wines that represent New World innovation on a global scale. The winery is located in Oakville, at the center of Napa Valley. The Mondavi family is well known for its dedication to research and experimentation in winemaking, as well as for helping establish the modern-day wine business in the post-Prohibition era. Some of Mondavi's innovations include the introduction of cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks and the use of French oak barrels in the late 1960s. Furthermore, Mondavi's technological innovations to improve the quality of wine and its focus on natural farming techniques have made a fundamental impact on the industry as a whole. For over 20 years Mondavi has been a leader in environmental responsibility, promoting sustainable farming and conservation.

The Robert Mondavi Winery produces wine in four categories: Napa Valley Wines, District Wines, Reserve Wines, and Limited Availability Wines. The Napa Valley wines are made from fruit blended across the region, whereas the District wines reflect the terroir of a particular appellation within the Valley. The Reserve wines are made from selected vineyard fruit that benefits from cellar aging. The Limited Availability Wines are unique varietal expressions (or blends) whose fruit is sourced from venerable vineyards throughout the Napa Valley and Carneros.
