Truly majestic concentration. Sweet, rich and spicy. Amazingly dense and youthful. Dry with lots of tannin on the finish. Put this away for ages.

Medium red. Vibrant strawberry, raspberry, anise and floral aromas could fill a room. Juicy and sharply delineated, offering sweet red berry and cherry preserve flavors with compelling accents of licorice, sassafras, lavender and smoky minerals. Extremely elegant wine with outstanding finishing cut and persistence. Not many grand cru Burgundies could match this for finesse.

The elegant 2006 Rayas Chateauneuf du Pape is not as powerful as the 2005 or 2007, but it offers a deep ruby color as well as opulent, fleshy, kirsch and black raspberry characteristics along with hints of spring flowers and loamy soil. A sexy, showy, beautifully balanced, silky effort.

Decant for 5 hrs. no doubt that it's a rayas, but still have a lot of tannins and quite heavy. not as complex as the 98 on the palate. may be should wait for another 10 years before drinking.

This legendary cellar grew to its fame through the efforts of the late Jacques Reynaud and is now run by his nephew, Emmanuel. The reds are mainly Grenache and reveal a solid concentration that reacts to aging by extracting layer upon layer of subtle texture and complexity. Most people tend to rave about the Rayas, but in our estimation, the Pignan (which is made up of the cuvees that didn't make the Rayas cut) is a terrific second wine that is such an extraordinary value that it should be purchased in case quantities. Often this unassuming wine can eclipse many a top Chateauneuf.
