($80) Pale, green-tinged color. Very closed on the nose. Sweet and lush but reasonably fresh in the mouth, with flavors of peachy fruit salad and spices. Undeniably a bit heavy for this vineyard but there's decent energy here in the context of the year. A bit dry on the back.

(from a bottle sourced from the domaine). Deep golden color. This is clearly quite ripe with exotic secondary fruit aromas leading to very rich, round and opulent flavors that display both a subtle minerality and noticeable warmth on the reasonably long finish. For my taste this has reached its peak and there is no reason to delay further unless your taste runs to post-mature whites.

Some smoky bacon. A good balance of richness and very crisp, mouthwatering acidity. Rich and very crisp - a good balance. A little touch of honey to soften the rapier like finish. (JH)

  • Based in Puligny-Montrachet, Paul Pernot and his sons Paul and Michel occupy a very important and respected position in Burgundy. They are the largest owners of the premier cru vineyard "les Folatieres" and have made their name with serious, mineral-driven wines that engender the graceful blossoming of top-tier white Burgundy. These wines are focused and precise with plenty of acidity and layered fruit aspects. What is so notable about these wines is how in the beginning they are restrained and tight, but with a bit of subtle coaxing they dance across the palate, showcasing vibrant mineral, citrus and white spice notes. Pernot also produces several reds from appellations including Bourgogne, Beaune, Pommard, Santenay, and Volnay.
