(includes 11% cabernet sauvignon) Full ruby-red. Black raspberry, licorice, truffle, shoe polish and a note of black olive on the nose. Sweet, lush and plump, with expressive flavors of black plum syrup, dark chocolate, mocha and truffle. This boasts a solid middle (|the addition of some cabernet adds weight and fills out the palate,| notes winemaker Green) to support its substantial ripe tannins. Finishes with dark fruits and earth. This has turned out very well.

Dense and brooding, with currant, Asian spice and distinctively earthy aromas. Flavors of plum, mineral and cedar take on muscular tannins on the finish.

Pahlmeyer's Merlot was the uncontested top California Merlot for many years, but significant competition has emerged from the upstart Kapcsandy Estate in Yountville. However, Pahlmeyer's offering remains one of the classic examples of just how great Merlot can be in Napa. The 2006 Merlot (89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon) exhibits sweet chocolate, mocha, cola, black cherry, and plum aromas and flavors as well as full body, a sumptuous, dense texture, and no hard edges. The beautifully integrated acidity, tannin, and wood result in a hedonistic, mouthfilling, luscious Merlot to consume over the next 10-15 years.

Color: Deep garnet, with crimson edges. Nose: Plum, black fruits, dusty cocoa and allspice. Palate: Big, bright wine, beautifully smooth tannins, black cherry and black berries. Very nice round mouth feel with soft edges. The wine envelopes your palate, but it is not jammy. This is a well balanced, well integrated wine, with a touch of acidity. The finish is long.

The wine of the night and easily one of the best Merlots I've had to date. Fruity, floral perfume, and delicious well balanced raspberry, dark cherry and oak flavors, with nothing overpowering. Super smooth entry, great multi-second finish, not a rough edge in sight. Quintessential steak wine to balance the fat and savoriness. Decanting this with an hour or more of air turned out to be a smart move. This is just about there.

This wine seems & tastes more like a cabernet than a Merlot. Dark & dense on palate then comes the black currant, lead pencil aromes. In mouth also the black currant dominates the flavor but also found black cherry and toasty flavors. Still very healthy, has depth and concentration and have for more development near to approach peak drinking in where shall stays for 3-4 years before started to fruit dryness. this moment decant or let open a while before consumption.

Pahlmeyer started over 20 years ago when former trial attorney Jayson Pahlmeyer decided to turn his passion for wine into a career in Napa Valley. After studying viticulture and oenology at the University of Bordeaux, Pahlmeyer returned to the United States and produced his first wine (a Bordeaux blend) in 1986. Under the guidance of Pahlmyer, and current winemaker Erin Green, this reputation endures, annually establishing the estate as one of the finest producers of Bordeaux blends, Merlot, and Chardonnay in California.
