A gorgeously elegant nose features spicy, ultra elegant and very cool and intensely floral aromas along with wild red and blue berry notes where the flavors are classic Reignots with their equally cool, reserved and almost |aloof| character that emphasizes the intense minerality of the site, which when combined with the better natural acidity causes the flavor profile to be one of taut and highly sophisticated muscularity with an intense stony quality to the driving, detailed, precise and moderately austere finish. This is a classy effort that is beautifully balanced but one that will also require the better part of a decade to arrive at its prime. Class in a glass.

Deep cherry red. Slightly reduced. A bit pongy but it has a certain appeal. Very light finish. Goes downhill.

Good bright red-ruby. Pure, showy aromas of wild dark berries, espresso and violet. Conveys a powerful impression of energy, elegance and power, with superb intensity to the black fruit, spice and mineral flavors. Impressively vibrant on the aftertaste if a bit youthfully brutal today, with late-emerging notes of bitter chocolate and meat. This will need seven or eight years in the cellar. A splendid premier cru.

Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Chateau de Vosne. The 2006 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Aux Reignots does not quite own the precision and focus of the previous vintage on the nose: mulberry and red plum, a scent of violet and even seaweed. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy, quite bold tannin. It does not have the same precision as the 2005 but there is equivalent weight and a pleasant sappiness on the finish. It is a decent Aux Reignots, though I would not place it amongst the top tier of vintages from the domaine. Tasted June 2015.
