Another new offering is the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueprint, which is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot aged in 50% new oak. It is meant to be a reasonably good value by the standards of Napa Valley Cabernet, and it fulfills that task admirably. The deep ruby/purple hue is accompanied by notes of chocolate, black currants, earth, and spice. Medium to full-bodied and soft, it is ideal for drinking over the next decade.

Aromas of fresh earth and clay join subtle dried currant, sage and herbal flavors in this full-bodied wine. Balanced and supple, with integrated tannins, ending on a drying note.

Wow! I love the blueberries in Lail Blueprint. Hmm. Name makes sense then!

Founded by John and Robin Lail and made by Philippe Melka, the Lail winery has for years specialized in producing the John Daniel Cuvee. This wine is sourced from Robin's vineyard, named for her father, who was the general manager of Inglenook in the 1940s, and was the great nephew of Gustave Niebaum, Inglenook's 19th century founder. A recent addition to the lineup has been a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Sauvignon Blanc under the Blueprint label, recognizing John's architecture business.
