  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 90

Rich and ripe, this is a big wine with lots of licorice and spice to modify the cherry fruit at the core, all of it lingering on the aggressive, generous finish. Needs time to settle down. Best from 2011 through 2016. 30 cases imported.

  • Wine Advocate | Rating: 92

The 2006 Shiraz was aged for 24 months in new French hogsheads (300-liter barrels). Purple/black in color, it offers up a brooding bouquet of toast, smoke, violets, blueberry, blackberry, and Asian spices. Dense and layered on the palate, this well-balanced effort is a bit tightly wound at present and will benefit from 4-6 years of cellaring.

  • More than half of all Australian wine production takes place in the South Australia region—home to the Shiraz-specializing Barossa Valley as well as revered Riesling zones Clare Valley and Eden Valley. South Australia is too large and diverse to generalize about climate or topography, with both cooler coastal areas and warmer inland sections—but rainfall is generally low throughout and drought is a constant concern.
