  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 94

($600) Full deep red. Raspberry, violet, truffle and dark chocolate on the nose. Sweet and silky but imploded; as juicy and tight as this is, there's also superb sweet fruit and no rough edges showing. Orange peel and flowers give this a compelling sappy quality. Like the Bonnes-Mares, this has a powerful structure to support a long and graceful evolution in bottle.

  • Burghound | Rating: 94

An exceptionally fresh and intensely floral and spicy black fruit aromas that are both ripe and strikingly elegant while complementing to perfection the extremely rich, full, sweet and serious yet seductive full-bodied flavors that also brim with dry extract, all wrapped in a deep, intense, long and seamlessly long finish that just seems to go on and on. This is simply at another level compared to all of the prior wines and is definitely one of those |wow| wines. A great 2006 in every respect and a worthy successor to the magnificent 2005.

As in 2005, there are one and a half barriques' (but a whole lot of Euros!) worth of Roumier 2006 Musigny. Liqueur-like kirsch and framboise, white truffle, peony, iris, and rich, savory meat stock fill the nose and carry onto an almost velvety palate that for all of its unctuousness displays dynamic interaction of flavors and uncanny lift. White pepper pungency and saline, meaty savor add to the invigoration and saliva-inducing allure of a long finish. While this cannot boast the concentration and structure of the 2005, its virtues are otherwise similarly prodigious. And one might well ask how much structure is needed to carry a wine like this - already soaring - over the next decade and beyond?

  • Georges Roumier married his way into some of the best vineyard holdings in the Cote d'Or, back in 1924. He gained a wife from Chambolle and the vineyards as part of the dowry. Grand Cru blocks in Bonnes-Mares, Clos de Vougeot, Musigny, and Corton Charlemagne produce highly sought-after wines year after year. Christophe Roumier, Georges' son, has run the domaine since 1982, when he took over management of his family's 14.2 hectares of vines. He is regarded as one of the finest winemakers in the Cote de Nuit, one who strives to create authentic representations of each of his diverse plots.
