($150) Good deep violet-ruby. Very primary aromas of crushed cassis and blueberry, with notes of eucalyptus and pepper. Extremely tight and unforthcoming, if not downright tough, with peppery black fruit flavors complicated by leather and smoked meat. Finishes with somewhat drying tannins. I don't find the same level of ripeness here as in the Ruchottes or Mazis. Frederic Esmonin noted that these vines were picked at the beginning of October, and that a sizable percentage of the berries were eliminated on the sorting table. An awkward showing today.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: March/April 2008Burghound | Rating: 89
A restrained, highly complex and pure nose that is relatively inexpressive at present gives way to delicious and equally complex flavors that finish with a distinct edge as there just isn't quite the same degree of phenolic ripeness of the structural elements. Note that I am suggesting that this not be cellared for as long as it will require for the tannins to fully resolve as this risks drying out with too much time in bottle.Author: Allen MeadowsIssue: 1st Quarter, 2008
