2006 Domaine Faiveley Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru
FRANCE / BURGUNDY / GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 92
($201) Medium red. Musky redcurrant, minerals, brown spices and rose petal on the nose; conveys subtle suggestions of vendange entier Vibrant and precise, with an enticing light touch to the flavors of red fruits, minerals and spices. A youthfully restrained and quite firm grand cru that's best today on the long, stony finish, which offers terrific aromatic lift. Built for cellaring.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: March/April 2009Burghound | Rating: 94
This too is discreetly wooded with an elegant, cool, reserved and stony red pinot fruit nose that offers a beautiful variety of layers where the following energetic medium-bodied flavors also brim with an intense minerality and excellent detail on the driving and tension-filled finish. This is wonderfully alive and altogether classic in style and like the Clos de Vougeot, this will require up to two decades to reach its full potential. A stunner fashioned in an old school style.Author: Allen MeadowsIssue: 1st Quarter, 2008
Domaine Faively began in 1825 as a classic negociant firm and has since been passed down from father to son for nearly 200 years. During this time, it has become the largest owner of classified vineyards in the Cote de Nuits, Cote de Beanue and Cotes Chalonnaise. With 10 hectares of Grand Crus and 25 hectares of Premier Crus, including several monopoles, Faiveley is not only one of the largest producers in Burgundy, but also one of the finest estates in the world.
Today led by Erwan Faiveley, the Nuits-Saint-Georges-based operation is looking to expand the domaine's holdings of exceptional vineyards to ensure more control from vine to bottle across the entire portfolio. Faiveley's top wines are hand-bottled with no filtration, resulting in wines described by Clive Coates as "...supremely clean and elegant: definitive examples of Pinot Noir... above all they have richness and breed, the thumbprint of a master winemaker."
