2006 Burge Family Shiraz Draycott Vineyard
AUSTRALIA / SOUTH AUSTRALIA /
Wine Spectator | Rating: 88
Smooth, silky and deftly balanced, offering spicy cherry and cedar aromas and flavors, lingering gently for a big wine. Drink now through 2014. 250 cases imported.Author: Harvey SteimanWine Advocate | Rating: 92
The 2006 Shiraz Draycott contains 2% Grenache and 2% Mourvedre aged in one-third new French barriques. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up a brooding bouquet of wood smoke, mineral, pencil lead, smoked meat, bacon, and blueberry compote. Thick and dense on the palate, at the moment it is a touch austere and will require 3-5 years of additional cellaring to more fully unwind. Drink this lengthy effort from 2013 to 2026.Author: Jay Miller

More than half of all Australian wine production takes place in the South Australia region—home to the Shiraz-specializing Barossa Valley as well as revered Riesling zones Clare Valley and Eden Valley. South Australia is too large and diverse to generalize about climate or topography, with both cooler coastal areas and warmer inland sections—but rainfall is generally low throughout and drought is a constant concern.
