International Wine Cellar | Rating: 94($300) Good bright red. Knockout nose melds musky, smoky soil tones, raspberry, blood orange, white pepper and coffee; wild and exhilarating. At once suave and electric on the palate, with wonderfully complex and alive flavors of raspberry, pungent minerals, pepper, smoked meat and dried flowers. This dense and intense but youthfully tight wine saturates the mouth with flavor and leaves the taste buds vibrating. The peppery element gives the finish terrific lift and lightness.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: March/April 2009
Burghound | Rating: 95A more elegant, less reserved and spicier nose of cool red berry fruit that has background nuances of Gevrey earth and underbrush notes that merge into rich, full and serious full-bodied flavors that are marvelously complex and brimming with dry extract that gives the finish a textured quality on the massively long finish. This is a 'wow' wine that is also old school in style.Author: Allen MeadowsIssue: 2nd Quarter, 2008
Jancis Robinson | Rating: 17Lovely perfume of delicate red fruit. Smooth, fresh, restrained. Tannins are dry and firm but just right. (JH)Author: Julia Harding MWIssue: 01/31/2008
Eighty-six hectares of grand and premier cru vineyards. One hundred thirty total hectares in the Cote d'Or. Eighty crus produced each vintage. Two hundred seventy-five years of history. Bouchard Père et Fils is truly an institution in Beaune. The Maison was founded by father and son Michel and Joseph Bouchard in 1731, and the family wine merchant business has grown steadily ever since, taking any opportunity to add to its vineyard holdings along the way. Not to be completely overshadowed by its wines, Bouchard conducts business in the very center of Beaune in the old Chateau de Beaune, whose storied past rivals that of the Maison. In 1995, the Champagne family of Joseph Henriot took control of Bouchard, resulting in improvements in quality, not to mention the addition of more top-level vineyard sites. Reds of particular interest include the flagship Beaune Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus and the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze. As for whites, the Meursault Genevrières, Meursault Perrières, Chevalier-Montrachet and Montrachet are all great interpreters of their particular sites, exhibiting the many nuances of grand and premier cru Chardonnay.
