2006 Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru

($95) Good, bright medium red. Complex, aromatic nose combines dark raspberry, singed orange, smoke, flowers and spicy oak. Creamy and rich in the mouth, with an almost velvety texture and a restrained sweetness to the musky flavors of red berries and pungent smoky minerality. Still a bit tight but finishes with noteworthy persistence.

This too offers a wonderfully seductive nose of intensely spicy black berry fruit with hints of hoisin, soy and cassis that leads to more mineral-inflected flavors that also possess ample amounts of dry extract that coat the palate and buffer the structure on the admirably long finish. There is perhaps not quite the depth of the Suchots but it's very close.

Very deep crimson. Some furry animal stuff on the nose - not the purest - a bit overripe and brutal. No delicacy. Bitter finish.
